The Hogwarts Legacy game is one that has been filled with many secrets and features that have been left unexplained. This game is unique to a lot of other games out there because Portkey have specifically designed it to encourage gamers to explore the wizarding world as much as they can and try to uncover these secrets for themselves.
Even though it is nice to not have everything revealed to you, as you will have some pleasant surprises and a sense of accomplishment when you find them yourself, it may also get a bit overwhelming. You Are Able To Swim
If you’ve played Hogwarts: Legacy for a while then you may have noticed that The Highlands are home to a few large ponds, and if you haven’t progressed in the game to have completed the Lost Astrolabe Side Quest, then you probably haven’t even noticed that you are actually able to swim in these ponds.
Even though the swimming feature may not be the coolest, as you aren’t able to dive underneath the water like in some other games, you are actually able to find rewards like Galleons or Gear hidden in bubbling spots in said ponds.
Your House Choice Will Actually Unlock Exclusive Quests
You should not spend too much time in deliberation between which house you want to be a part of because it doesn’t really have any effect on what you will experience in the game, but there are a few differences that you should take note of.
One of these key differences may not be that important to everyone because it is purely cosmetic, but for those that care about your character’s looks then you should be aware of the fact that the house you choose will affect the colour of the gear that you receive. Then other differences between the houses can include unique dialogue lines specific to your house, the ability to socialise a bit more with your fellow 5th year students in your house, an exclusive common room for your house as well as special Floo Flame fast travel points, which will be able to take you directly to your house wing.
Apart from these small differences, the biggest difference that you will experience from house to house only comes once you’ve completed the Trials of Merlin, which will happen pretty early on in the game. Once you’ve gone through this quest, you’ll get a new quest that will be exclusive to your house and each house will have a different quest.
Arithmancy Doors Can Be Solved As Soon As You Join The Game
One thing, which is a bit more subtle but definitely something that you may have noticed when you were exploring the halls of Hogwarts, are the Arithmancy Doors. The strange puzzle doors are surrounded by symbols of magical beasts and in order to find the solution to open up these doors you’ll have to find a cipher note that has been hidden above The Library Annex.
For those gamers that are just looking to get through this game as quickly as possible and find everything fast then you’ll be happy to know that you won’t be required to know any specific spells or acquire any ciphers in order to be able to open these doors. To be able to open up these doors you’ll have to know what each of the different symbols represents so that you can solve the mathematical equation. Then once you find the solution and manage to open these doors then you’ll be rewarded with some loot, Field Guide Pages and sometimes even secret rooms.
Doors That Can’t Be Opened
Then we come to doors that are actually locked and ones that you won’t be able to open in your early hours in this game. In order to actually open these doors you will need to learn a specific spell, the Alohomora Spell, which you only unlock in the game after completing the Caretaker’s Lunar Lament Quest, which you will get to after around seven to ten hours of gameplay in the main story. Once you manage to learn this spell and finally open these doors, you’ll find small hidden rooms with loot, chests and Field Guide Pages inside of them.
Sneaking up on the eyes that see everything
Just like the locked doors that you need a spell to get into, the Eyeball Chests are protected by eyes, which if detect you will seal the chest shut, so in order to get to it you will need to know the Disillusionment spell. The good thing about this spell is that you will be able to learn it pretty early on in your game play hours, during the Secrets of the restricted Section quest specifically.
So, once you learn this Disillusionment spell you will be able to actually make yourself invisible and be able to sneak up on the chest. Even though you have this spell you will still have to be careful because if the chest gets spooked in any way then it will seal itself shut.
Try Casting a Spell On Highlighted Statues
A lot of the time you’ll be able to actually find Field Guide Pages hidden behind statues that have been marked with the Levioso symbol on their base. The statues are holding an orb and become highlighted white when you walk closer to them. In order to receive the Field Guide Page that these statues are hiding, you’ll simply have to cast the Levioso spell on the statue to reveal it.
This technique doesn’t only apply to these statues but also to the dragon brazier statues, which you’ll find on the ground as well as hanging from the walls. These statues will have to be treated a little differently however, as you’ll need to use the Incendo spell to light them in order to receive the hidden Field Guide Pages from them.
Switch Between Day And Night With The Click Of A button
There are lots of players out there that prefer to play during the day to the night, whether it be because it is less scary or because they are able to see things a lot better.
In order to change the day time to night time during the game, you will have to open up your world map and in the bottom right hand-side corner you will see a small “wait” option that you can toggle by pressing your controller’s analog stick.
You Are Able To Tweak Your Character’s Appearance After Creating Them
As you’d understand, it would be a little weird if you were able to change everything about your character, including their facial structure, after your initial creation of them. However, there are a few things that you can change, by travelling to the Barber in Hogsmeade. Here you will not only be able to get a fresh new hair-do, you’ll also be able to change your complexion as well as the eye colour of your character.
Relax And Let The Reward Come To You
A lot of the times when you’re out and about, exploring the Highlands, you’ll actually find yourself witnessing a lot of factions fighting. When you come across these fights, it’ll be a good idea for you to carefully join because if you deliver the final blow to an enemy then you’ll receive the items that they drop, making this a super easy way to earn some easy loot quickly.
So, if you don’t have anything better to do then this is a nice way to pass the time whilst getting some extra equipment and loot, all you will have to do is cast the Disillusionment spell and watch as the different factions fight around you. When you find that an enemy may almost be dead or is worn down then just swoop in and do the finishing blow, so that you get all the resources they drop.
Grind The First Half Of The Story
A lot of the most sought after spells and features that Hogwarts Legacy offers, such as Flying Mounts, Brooms, Picklocking and Disillusionment, can only be unlocked by progressing in the main storyline. Sadly it will take an estimate of around seven to ten hours of serious game play before you reach a point in the Hogwarts Legacy game where you can say that you have the majority of these core features that Hogwarts Legacy has to offer.
In order to avoid having to backtrack any of you adventures, to try and refind chests or hidden areas that you couldn’t get into because you didn’t have the right spells or equipment yet, you should try to mainline the story until you unlock Beasts, which is around the middle point of the game.
