At the beginning of your Hogwarts Legacy Adventure there will be a sorting hat, which will sort you into one of the four houses at the school, whether it be Gryffindor, Slytherin, Ravenclaw or Hufflepuff.

Choosing your house in Hogwarts Legacy

Even though this hat will assign a house to you, you as the player will be able to switch and choose which one you want, so it won’t just be up to the sorting hat. This is very good because this is one of the most important decisions that you will be making at the beginning of the game.

The different houses don’t just have different uniform colours, there are actually elements to the gameplay that you will experience differently in different houses. This article will highlight these differences between the Hogwarts houses and which one may interest you the most.

The Differences Between The Four Hogwarts Legacy Houses

Differences Between The Four Hogwarts Legacy Houses

There will be four houses that the game will allow you to choose from: Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, Slytherine and Hufflepuff. Even though there is one main quest that will differ from house to house, a lot of what you will be experiencing in this game won’t change depending on the house that you are in. The differences that you will encounter and should probably take note of include the following:

  • The different houses have different House Colors, which will be incorporated into some of your gear.
  • You will only have access to your house’s Common Room location and the Floo Flame fast travel point will be exclusive to your house only.
  • You’ll also get a lot more socialising and introduction time with the 5th year students who are in the same house as you.
  • There may be dialogue in the Hogwarts Legacy storyline that may reference your house, depending which one you’re in.

Another thing to take note of is that the different houses will also have different quests that lead to you meeting with Richard Jackdaw.

  • Gryffindor students will have to complete a quest called “The Hunt for the Missing Pages”, which is where you’ll meet someone called Nearly Headless Nick and join in on the Headless Hunt
  • Ravenclaw students who are going to have to start hunting for Ollivander’s Heirloom, which will lead to you having to investigate The Owlery.
  • Slytherin students will embark on a quest called Scrope’s Last Hope, where you’ll have to follow some clues on a map to eventually meet up with Headmaster Black’s House Elf to find a secret grotto.
  • Hufflepuff students on the other hand will have to embark on the quest “Prisoner of Love”, where you will take a little trip to the Azkaban Prison and try to solve a murder mystery.

It is also nice to know that you’ll have a fair Hogwarts experience, no matter which house you are a part of, because there aren’t any bonuses, perks or exclusive companions to just one specific house. Although it may be a little easier to socialise with 5th year students in the same house as you, you will still be able to socialise with all students of Hogwarts, no matter what house they are a part of.

Gryffindor

Gryffindor

The students in the house Gryffindor are amongst some of the most courageous wizards out there and are known for their bravery and chivalry. Gryffindor students are most likely to do something heroic and if you’re going to bet on a wizard or witch to do the right thing no matter what, then Gryffindor would be your safest bet.

The Gryffindor house was founded by Godric Gryffindor and is often depicted with a picture of a lion and red and gold colours on the Gryffindor garments, which the students of that house wear. If you are in the Gryffindor House you’ll also get exclusive access to the Gryffindor Common Room, which you will find in the South Wing’s Gryffindor Tower, it should be pretty easy to find as it is being guarded by a portrait of a fat lady.

Even though you’d have a chance to talk to the Gryffindor 5th year students no matter which house you were in, you’ll get a lot more chances if you are in Gryffindor. Some of the Gryffindor students that are more notable than others include Garreth Weasley, who is the nephew to Professor Weasley, Nellie Oggspire as well as Cressida Blume. Another person that you’ll get to spend more time with is Natasi Onai, which is very good because she will actually be accompanying you on certain companion quests.

Then other notable students that attended Hogwarts and were in Gryffindor include Albus Dumbledore, Rubeus Hagrid and of course the famous Harry Potter and his closest friends, who only attend Hogwarts very long after everything that happens in this game.

Slytherin

Slytherin

Slytherin students are often thought of in more of a dubious light as they often strive for cunningness and ambition above all else. This could mean that they will try to succeed in their endeavours without caring about the consequences their actions may have on others or their morality.

Salazar Slytherin was the one who founded this house and you will be able to recognise it by the students that wear the snake crest and the colours green and silver. If you are part of the Slytherin House then you will also have access to their Slytherin Common Room, which you’ll find underneath the large lake in the dungeons of Hogwarts and below the Grand Staircase. In the common room the windows will be casting a watery glow to them, where you are actually able to look at the different fish in the lake.

You choosing to be in the Slytherin House won’t change anything significant when it comes to the Hogwarts Legacy story, and even if you may think that you will be able to learn or dabble in the Dark Arts by being in this house it isn’t actually required. However, if you do end up choosing the Slytherin House then you will notice that you will get a lot more chances to interact with the 5th year Slytherin students a lot more than if you were in another house.

Some of the more memorable Slytherin students that you will get to interact with include Ominis Gaunt, Imelda Reyes and Sebastian Sallow. Sebastian Sallow is a little more important than the others though, when it comes to the storyline, because he will accompany you in companion quests.

Then there are some well known characters that also attended Slytherin, like Bloody Baron, Merlin, Tom Riddle and Severus Snape, most of whom only attended Hogwarts long after all these events you’ll partake in.

Ravenclaw

Ravenclaw

The Ravenclaw House students are best known for their wisdom and creative intelligence for problem solving, and to be put into this house would mean that you are thought of to be the smartest of your fellow peers. The students in this house don’t focus as much on their raw power as others do but instead pursue knowledge instead. The students in this house pursue the magical arts and strive to become masters of their spells and magic.

The Ravenclaw house was founded by Rowena Ravenclaw and has an eagle to represent them, the students will wear clothing that feature the colours blue and bronze so you will be able to identify them. The Ravenclaw Common Room can also be found off the branching towers of the Grand Staircase, but to get into the room you won’t have to know the password, you’ll have to solve a riddle. Once you solve the riddle and get into the Common Room you’ll be able to enjoy the huge vaulted room, with very wide windows, allowing you to look down at the ground below you.

As with any other house, there won’t be any big changes to the storyline in anyway by joining this house, but you will have a lot more opportunities and time to engage and talk with the other 5th year Ravenclaw students, such as Duncan Everett Clopton, Samantha Dare and Amit Thakkar, who will be the one that will join you in the companion quests.

Then lastly, the other famous characters that have been or will be a part of the Ravenclaw House include: Gray Lady, Uric the Oddball, Filius Flitwick, Sybill Trelawney and Luna Lovegood.

Hufflepuff

Hufflepuff

The Hufflepuff House is known for the students being very inclusive and everyone in it definitely values their hard work. This house is often thought of first when you think of good-natured people and they definitely pride themselves in being patient, loyal and fair. Even though the Hufflepuff House may not be as competitive as the other houses in Hogwarts they are still capable of great things, so you should not underestimate them.

The Hufflepuff House was founded by Helga Hufflepuff and is represented by a badger and the yellow and black colours. The badger and these colours will help you be able to spot the Hufflepuff members as these students will be wearing them on their garments. You’ll find their common room located pretty close to the Great Hall’s kitchen, which is positioned below a separate stair from the Grand Staircase, which goes to the cellars. The Hufflepuff Common Room features a very cozy room, which has been brought to life with amazing plants and fauna, and is also very close to the house-elf kitchens.

Then once again, being in this house will not affect your storyline in any drastic ways, except for you getting more opportunities to talk to the other 5th year students also a part of Hufflepuff, such as Adelaide Oakes, Authur Plummly and Lenora Everleigh. Lastly, you’ll also get a lot of time with Poppy Sweeting, who will be the person that you bring with you on your companion questline.

Other famous characters that have been and are still going to be in Hufflepuff one day include Fat Friar, Newton Scamander, and Cedric Diggory.

Final Words

Remember that whatever house you choose it won’t affect your storyline too much so just stay true to yourself and choose the one that you think will match your values as a person. If you aren’t sure which house is for you then you can also visit the official Wizarding World website, where you will be sorted into the house they believe is right for you after you answer a short series of questions.
