Just four days ago, verification was removed for accounts that hadn’t paid for Twitter Blue, but now some accounts have gotten the well-known blue checkmark back – without having to subscribe to Twitter’s paid service.

Twitter Blue

Over the weekend, personalities such as Neil Gaiman, football player Riyad Mahrez, musician Lil Nas X, actress Janel Parrish Long, and British TV presenter Richard Osman have testified to getting their blue checkmark back without paying for Twitter Blue. The common factor is that all accounts have over a million followers on the platform.

Initially, Elon Musk “personally” paid for Twitter Blue for LeBron James, Stephen King, and William Shatner, it is unclear if the same applies in this case, or if Twitter simply backed away from removing all original verifications.
