Twitter, or X as it’s now called, is bringing back political advertisements for the upcoming 2024 U.S. presidential election. Despite X reducing the number of employees monitoring disinformation and hateful behavior, the company claims that it will successfully combat any potential misinformation spread through political ads.

Twitter believes it’s necessary to allow political ads on the platform for people to discuss their interests in real-time and, of course, for the platform to generate revenue from this. The platform’s former CEO, Jack Dorsey, introduced the rule that banned political ads while accusing Facebook of profiting from disinformation.

A study revealed that the spread of misinformation increased by 44 percent on X after Elon Musk purchased the platform. However, the platform asserts that this won’t be a problem as they are expanding their security and election teams, and opening a global transparency center for ads.
