X has announced that it is discontinuing “Circles,” the group feature that was launched last year when X was still called Twitter.
The idea behind Circles was that Twitter users could create groups with up to 150 of their followers and post messages that only those in the group could see.
X does not specify why it is discontinuing Circles. However, it is possible that the feature was not used enough for X to continue investing resources in maintaining it. Circles will disappear from X on October 31, and in a blog post, X states:
X is deprecating Circles as of Oct 31st, 2023. After this date, you will not be able to create new posts that are limited to your Circle, nor will you be able to add people to your Circle.
