There has been a lot of talk about ASUS’ handheld gaming computer ROG Ally since it was introduced earlier this month. Based on what has been shown so far, it is probably the most powerful handheld gaming computer to date, something that has led several observers to suspect that prices would start at at least $800.
However, new information suggests that the most powerful version of ROG Ally, which will feature an AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme chip, 16GB of RAM, and 512GB of SSD storage, will cost $699. That’s only about $50 more than the most powerful version of the competing Steam Deck with 512GB of storage.
There will also be a version of ROG Ally with the slightly less powerful Ryzen Z1 chip, but there is no information yet on what it might cost. The cheapest version of the Steam Deck, which has 64GB of storage, currently costs $399.
ASUS will hold a presentation of ROG Ally on May 11, and then we will probably find out what the pricing for the different models of the handheld gaming computer with Windows 11 will look like.
