Microsoft has now released a beta version of Xbox Cloud Gaming for Meta’s VR headsets Meta Quest 2, 3, and Pro. This means that it will be possible to play hundreds of games from Xbox Cloud Gaming streamed directly to Meta Quest.
To play games from Xbox Cloud Gaming, a game controller with Bluetooth support is required. Among the controllers that are supported so far are Xbox’s own controllers, PlayStation 4 controllers, and the Nintendo Switch Pro controller. Meta also states that support for the PlayStation 5 controller will be added in the future.
In addition to a compatible controller, an Xbox Game Pass subscription is required to access games on Xbox Cloud Gaming.
In the short video clip above, you can see what it looks like when playing Xbox Cloud Gaming on a virtual screen with so-called passthrough on Meta Quest, which makes it possible to see both the controller and the room the player is physically in. There is also an option to play without passthrough, in which case a virtual environment with an Xbox theme is displayed instead.
