Eye Chests aren’t just any regular chests but instead they come with a strange eyeball attached to it, and if you haven’t seen one yet you probably will soon as these pop up in Hogwarts Legacy many times. These chests are pretty tough to open and seem impossible in the early stages of Hogwarts Legacy but once you’ve gotten a particular spell then it’ll seem pretty simple.

How to open these chests
Once you’ve finally completed the very beginning of the game and arrived at Hogwarts you’ll bump into one of these sentient chests, with an eye in the middle, pretty soon. These types of chests are found everywhere in this game from anywhere, such as the Restricted Section of the Library in Hogwarts all the way to inside shops found in Hogsmeade.
These chests are special as they get startled when you approach them and once they are startled the eye on the chest actually follows your every move. This means that in order to get close to these chests without startling them you will have to sneak up on them so you can actually open them. If you thought that your basic crouch motion will be enough, you will be sadly mistaken as it will still startle the chest. The only way you can get to the chest without startling it is by crouching at the same time as you’re using the Disillusionment Charm.
Acquiring the Disillusionment Charm
Although most of your basic spells that you’ll acquire in this game can be acquired simply by attending your classes, the Disillusionment Charm is different and you’ll have to learn it from Sebastian Sallow, during your main Hogwarts Legacy quest, called Secrets of the Restricted Section. Sebastian Sallow will teach you this charm in order to sneak past some of the students unnoticed to get into the Library, by the Central Hall.
Then after this, once you’ve made it safely into the Restricted Section of the Library, you’ll finally be able to use the Disillusionment Charm to open up an Eye Chest for the very first time. In order to successfully sneak up on these chests you’ll need to cast the spell before you get too close to the chest and just sneak forward to it to unlock it.
You should also remember that if you do manage to startle the Eye Chest before you use the Disillusionment Charm to go invisible the chest won’t return to its dormant state until you walk away from it and then cast the charm again in order to sneak up on it.
The Rewards from the Eye Chests
Although most of the gear that you will get from chests within and outside of Hogwarts will be random gear, collections and other items, the Eye Chests on the other hand will always have the same things in them, 500 gold, which means they are an easy and sure source of income.
Most of these Eye Chests can be found in Hogwarts or Hogsmeade so be sure to cast your Revelio spell whenever you’re exploring anywhere so that you don’t risk the chance of walking right past a chest.
