This article is going to work as a guide for those that are willing to learn more about the Helltide World Events in Diablo IV.

Helltide World Events

A Helltide is essentially just a type of World Event that you unlock once you’ve completed the Diablo IV campaign or story line. This guide will contain a description of what Helltides are, when you unlock them, how to progress through them and also what kind of various rewards you can expect to receive from them.

Unlocking Helltides

Unlocking Helltides

You don’t have to do anything specific to unlock the Helltides, you’ll just simply unlock them naturally in Diablo IV once you’ve successfully completed the whole campaign and then also completed the Capstone Dungeon, which also unlocks World Tier 3. Now that you’re able to access World Tier 3, you’ll then receive a Priority Quest, which will be titled “The Helltide Rises”, from Doomsayer Pira.

Then after you’ve done this the game will then give you a quick pop-up run-down on Helltides. But to progress and gain access to these Helltides you’ll learn about, as you know you’ll need to be at least in World Tier 3.

Helltides Explained

Helltides Explained

What a Helltide actually is is just an area on the map that will be covered in a deep red colour, basically showing you the total area in which the Helltide encapsulates.

Then when you look at what’s actually inside of the Helltide area, such as the environment and enemy types, they’ll always change. So a Helltide is like a demon invasion that you are able to see on your map. These ‘invasions’ will typically happen quite often and they’ll last for an hour, so you’ll want to farm them when they’re up so you can make the most of this time. When it comes to completing a Helltide, you won’t actually be able to ‘beat’ it per se, all you can do is farm the areas once you see they’re open.

These areas are relatively important to your journey through the Diablo IV game since they give you quite a few rewards and gear. You’ll also get a lot of experience since the main objective that you’ll have during a Helltide is to defeat as many enemies as possible and also complete world events.

If you are also lucky during these times you could experience that Whispers of the World Tree could also occur, which would make it a perfect place to complete some bonus objectives and simply kill two birds with one stone.

Another new and unique item that you’ll be able to collect whilst you’re inside of the Helltide are Aberrant Cinders. You’ll be able to obtain these by completing any objective whilst you’re inside of the Helltide, such as slaying monsters, completing events, interacting with world objects, or also opening Tortured Chests.

These Aberrant Cinders will disappear once the Helltide expires, so it’ll be important for you to try and spend them before the timer expires to make sure you make the most of them. You’ll be able to spend these on Tortured Chests that you’ll be able to find in lots of different places around the Helltide. However you don’t want to be too reckless with them because if you die you’ll also lose half of your current Aberrant Cinders, so be sure to be careful.

You’ll be able to find loads of different types of Tortured  Chests that will drop a lot of different types of gear. The various gear types will also cost different amounts of Aberrant Cinders, so you want to be sure that you have the correct amount in your inventory for the exact type that you want.

  • Tortured Gift of Protection (Helmets, Chest Armor, Gloves, Legguards, Boots) – 75 Aberrant Cinders
  • Tortured Gift of Jewelry (Rings and Amulets) – 125 Aberrant Cinders
  • Tortured Gift of One-Handed Weapons (Weapons and Off-Hands) – 125 Aberrant Cinders
  • Tortured Gift of Two-Handed Weapons (Two-Handed Weapons) – 150 Aberrant Cinders
  • Tortured Gift of Mysteries (Assorted Gear) – 175 Aberrant Cinders

You’ll also be able to receive a small amount of Forgotten Souls and Fiend Roses, which are both types of materials that you will use to upgrade or enchant your gear.

The Fiend Roses and Forgotten Souls

The Fiend Roses and Forgotten Souls

Both of these types of materials are semi-rare and can only be found during Helltides, so you’d definitely want to take some time out of your gameplay to go and farm these events when they’re active. In terms of how you can actually obtain these two materials, they’re actually quite similar, here are some of the most common ways that you can do so:

  • Kill Elites inside of the Helltide.
  • Open Tortured Chests inside of the Helltide.
  • Picking the relatively rare Fiend Rose plant inside of the Helltide, although this is specifically exclusive for the Fiend Roses.
  • You can also exclusively only get the Forgotten Souls by interacting with the Screaming Hell Vein inside of the Helltide.

Although trying to farm these two materials can feel infrequent at first, once you’ve actually spent some time inside of the Helltide you’ll see that you can actually accumulate the amount that the game asks you to use for enchanting and upgrading your gear quite quickly.
