In The Promised Land, Mads Mikkelsen plays the impoverished soldier Ludvig Kahlen.
In 1755, he arrives in Jutland to cultivate the land on the king’s orders and thereby become wealthy. However, the landowner Frederik De Schinkel rules over the area and believes that the heath belongs to him and not the king.
