The film giant has chosen to move the Star Wars film, originally set for release in December 2025, to May 2026. The new Star Wars films that were unveiled at Star Wars Celebration in April now appear to be delayed. Just like with Avatar 3 and other films, Disney has to rework its film calendar, partly due to the ongoing screenwriters’ strike, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter.
The films announced in April include James Mangold’s upcoming adventure, which explores the discovery of the Force. Then we have Dave Filoni’s project, a new film with connections to The Mandalorian and other stories. Lastly, there is the continuation of Rey’s saga after The Rise of Skywalker, directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy. Actress Daisy Ridley will also return to the film series.
We don’t know exactly which adventures will be released when, but we do know that one Star Wars film was initially scheduled for December 2025 and has now been moved to May 2026. This is likely referring to Daisy Ridley’s film, as it has been in production the longest. Another Star Wars film will be released in December 2026, and the third film aims for a premiere in late 2027. For the first time ever, we will have two new Star Wars films in the same year.
Currently, Disney is going through a tumultuous period in the company’s history. Apart from various film delays, the film giant must also remove content from its streaming service to write off losses, and they also plan to eliminate 7,700 jobs.
