The third Avatar film will be delayed by a year. It may not come as a big surprise, as rumors have circulated for a long time – and we know that James Cameron takes his time. But the director will need extra time for the sequels to Avatar: The Way of Water, with the next one originally scheduled for Christmas 2024.
The new release date for Avatar 3 is December 19, 2025.
At the same time, new release dates are announced for parts four and five. The original plan was for the films to be released with a two-year gap, but now it will be a three to four-year wait. Avatar 4 will come in Christmas 2029, and Avatar 5 (possibly the final one in the series?) will be released in Christmas 2031.
One reason is the ongoing screenwriters’ strike in Hollywood, which is causing delays in many major productions, as reported by the Hollywood Reporter.
“Each Avatar film is an exciting but epic undertaking that takes time to bring to the quality level we as filmmakers strive for and audiences have come to expect. The team is hard at work and can’t wait to bring audiences back to Pandora in December 2025.” producer Jon Landau wrote on Twitter.
