Microsoft’s code service Github has showcased a successor to Copilot, an AI-driven programming assistant that they introduced on the platform last year. The new programming assistant is called “Copilot X” and, just like its predecessor, is based on AI technology from OpenAI.

Copilot X uses OpenAI’s latest language model, GPT-4, to assist users in writing code and/or providing suggestions for code snippets in their programs. Copilot X also supports input via speech, which means the programmer can give voice commands about what tasks Copilot X should perform.

Copilot X

Initially, Copilot X will only be available in Microsoft’s development environments, Visual Studio and Visual Studio Code, but Github plans to integrate support for other development environments in the future. In the video above, you can check out a bit more about Copilot X.
