Amazon announced last week that they will construct a new factory for satellites intended for their space internet initiative, Project Kuiper.

Amazon is building a satellite factory

The new facility will be located adjacent to the Kennedy Space Center in Florida and is estimated to cost around $120 million. Amazon has already started manufacturing satellites at its current facility in Kirkland, Washington, and does not expect to begin building satellites at its Florida factory until around 2025.

Later this year, Amazon plans to launch the first two prototype satellites for its space-based internet network. Afterward, they hope to launch more satellites into the network and introduce an initial pilot version of Project Kuiper to select customers sometime in 2024.

The first version of Project Kuiper is expected to consist of 3,256 satellites when the network is fully deployed.
