The chat service Discord has decided to remove the unsightly extra digits that people have had after their usernames. These numbers have probably made it easier for Discord to keep track of users, but for the users themselves, it has been nothing but a hassle. These extra digits are often something that users are not aware of, which means that friend requests on Discord often fail.

All Discord users' names are going to be changed

But this change means that all Discord users will have to change their names again, and without these digits, the usernames must be unique. However, users can still change their display names, so it can be anything, much like Twitter.

Discord usernames are changing to remove four-digit discriminators. Display Names are being added so how you appear to other users stays the same. We will be assigning priority to choose your new username based on when you registered for Discord, Nitro status, and ownership of partner and verified servers.

Not everyone will be able to change their names at the same time, as long-time users or paid subscribers will have priority.
