Update Nov 29:
Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty Sold 4.3 Million Copies
In Less Than Two Months.
Many were evidently eager for more Cyberpunk 2077, as the sales figures for the expansion Phantom Liberty look undeniably good. In a financial report from CD Projekt, they reveal that 4.3 million copies of it have been sold in less than two months.
CEO Adam Kiciński said he was very pleased with the launch of Phantom Liberty as well as update 2.0, which “introduces a plethora of additional improvements that elevate gameplay in Night City to a whole new level of quality.”
Furthermore, he said that it is an important achievement in their pursuit to develop the brand, because yes, a sequel is indeed in the works. It goes under the project name Project Orion and is being developed by the core team from the first game, but mainly in the USA rather than in Poland.
CD Projekt’s ‘Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty,’ which is the expansion to the 2020 role-playing game, was released yesterday for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. Unlike the original, which received a lukewarm reception, ‘Phantom Liberty’ seems to be CD Projekt’s big redemption.
PC Gamer writes that “I’m extremely pleased with Phantom Liberty—CD Projekt can hang with the big dogs when it comes to cinematic storytelling” They gave it a score of 87 out of 100.
IGN is even more enthusiastic, stating that “Balancing the punk-rock verve of Mike Pondsmith’s tabletop RPG with an exquisitely crafted spy story and best-in-class visuals, Phantom Liberty is Cyberpunk 2077 at its best.” giving it a score of 9 out of 10.
GameSpot review: “Phantom Liberty embodies the best of Cyberpunk 2077 for a thrilling RPG-shooter with an evocative story, compelling side content, and unforgettable conclusions.”
GamesRadar+ agrees, saying that with the 2.0 update of the base game and ‘Phantom Liberty,’ ‘Cyberpunk 2077’ is now a completely different game. It not only looks better than ever but is also very expansive. They rated it 4.5 out of 5.
‘Cyberpunk 2077’ was released in 2020 by the game studio CD Projekt, best known for ‘The Witcher’ series. In this futuristic neon city setting, they departed from the medieval fantasy environment. Unfortunately, many players were dissatisfied with ‘Cyberpunk 2077,’ and since then, the game studio has been working on various patches to ‘save’ the game, as well as the ‘Phantom Liberty’ expansion, which features the participation of Idris Elba and is set to release on September 26.
