Qualcomm is now releasing new chips for handheld gaming consoles under the new Snapdragon G-Series.
The Snapdragon G-Series now consists of three different chips – G1 Gen 1, G2 Gen 1, and G3x Gen 2. The last one is an upgrade from the G3x Gen 1 used in the Razer Edge 5G.
According to Qualcomm, Snapdragon G3x Gen 2’s 8-core Kryo CPU offers a 30 percent performance improvement, while the Adreno A32 GPU doubles the performance compared to the previous generation. Snapdragon G1 Gen 1 is intended for devices capable of streaming console or PC games from the cloud. It features an octa-core Kryo CPU and an Adreno A11 GPU that supports up to 1080p 60 fps video playback on the device.
Snapdragon G2 Gen 1 enables both local and cloud-based gaming. It supports 5G and Wi-Fi 6E through the Qualcomm FastConnect 6700 platform. G2 Gen 1 also has an octa-core Kryo CPU but features a more powerful Adreno A21 that supports FHD+ 144 Hz gaming and up to 4K 30 fps video playback.
The flagship G3x Gen 2 also includes hardware-accelerated ray tracing, super resolution for gaming, Snapdragon Sound with low-latency Bluetooth audio, Wi-Fi 7, and support for 5G sub-6 GHz and mmWave bands.
