It seems that the future of the E3 gaming expo is becoming increasingly uncertain. GameIndustry.biz reports that the Entertainment Software Association (ESA), the organization behind E3, has terminated its partnership with ReedPop, the company that was set to organize this year’s E3 and E3 2024.
In addition to ending its collaboration with ReedPop, ESA has not reserved convention center space at the Los Angeles Convention Center for a potential E3 expo next year. The Los Angeles City Tourism Commission also stated that it does not anticipate E3 returning to the Los Angeles Convention Center in either 2024 or 2025.
However, ESA does not appear to have completely given up on the idea of continuing to host the E3 expo. In a statement to The Verge, ESA’s CEO Stanley Pierre-Louis mentioned that they are exploring how E3 could be continued and where it might take place.
E3 was considered one of the world’s largest and most significant gaming expos, beginning in 1995 and running until 2019. The event was canceled in 2020 due to COVID-19, and in 2021, an online version of the expo was held. ESA had planned to host a physical E3 expo in both 2022 and 2023, but it was canceled both years primarily because several major game developers conducted their own events and announced that they would not attend E3.
