“I don’t know where the rumor comes from,” says the boss of Illumination, denying that a “Zelda” film is in the works.

Zelda

Considering the tremendous success and fan satisfaction of the “Super Mario Bros. Movie,” it would be a natural step to bring another popular Nintendo game series to the big screen, right? And last week, there was chatter about Nintendo planning a major venture by allowing their collaborative partners Illumination to make a film based on “The Legend of Zelda.”

If you let out a big cheer upon hearing the news, you now have every reason to be disappointed. The rumors are false and completely fabricated, at least according to Illumination boss Chris Meledandri.

“I don’t know where that came from,” Meledandri said of the “Legend of Zelda” report. “I mean I can understand how people would surmise all sorts of things because obviously, we’ve had a great experience working together. My relationship with Nintendo now includes being on their board of directors, so I understand how people can surmise these things. But in terms of the specifics, that was just something that I’ve been hearing lots of reports. This is just about what’s next between Nintendo and Illumination.” Meledandri told The Wrap.

It seems that Link and Princess Zelda’s adventures are not heading to the silver screen after all. Or perhaps the Illumination boss is just waiting for the perfect moment to announce the film and doesn’t want to reveal anything right now. Only time will tell. However, perhaps a started rumor can still prompt Nintendo and Illumination to actually consider a “Zelda” film if the fans yearn for it enough.
