Converting classic cars to electric power has become increasingly popular, and the number of companies offering conversion kits is growing. One of these is Electrogenic, which we have written about before. They have now developed a new kit that is designed to fit in a classic Mini, and the whole thing fits under the hood of the small car.
Since it is a compact build, it doesn’t provide monster power figures, but it may be enough if you’re just going for a Sunday drive now and then. The electric motor produces 60 horsepower and 135 Newton meters, and the 20 kWh battery pack is said to provide a range of 129 km. Not much to brag about at the charging station, but the solution is still pretty small.
What’s not small is the price tag. To become the owner of one of these kits, you’ll have to cough up £15,000, which is a hefty sum. A version with a longer range and an extra battery pack in the trunk is said to be in the works. The kit is said to be easy to install and easy to restore if you want to hang the fossil engine back in.
