The auction house Sotheby’s is now selling a pair of “Omega Sports Apple Computer Sneakers” for the staggering price of $50,000.
These shoes were distributed to Apple employees during a sales conference in the mid-1990s. Unfortunately, I haven’t found any information on the exact number of pairs that were produced or how many are still in circulation. The sneakers being sold by Sotheby’s are said to be completely unused but show some signs of age.
This is not the first time a pair of Apple sneakers has been put up for sale. In 2017, a pair was sold for $30,000, and in an auction in 2020, a buyer could acquire a pair for $16,000.
In fact, as early as 1986, Apple released a collection of clothing and accessories under the name “The Apple Collection.”
This collection included mugs, umbrellas, bags, keychains, and even a sailboard, all featuring Apple’s logo.
These were white label products, manufactured by third-party companies like Lamy, Honda, or Braun, but sold by Apple under their own brand.
Featuring a predominately white upper, the old school rainbow Apple logo — on both the tongue and lateral quarter — is a standout detail. Having never reached the general public, this particular pair of sneakers is one of the most obscure in existence and highly coveted on the resale market.
