Not even 24 hours after OpenAI officially presented ChatGPT-4, language app Duolingo now features functions powered by GPT-4. The two new functions are “Roleplay”, which is an AI conversation partner, and “Explain my Answer”, which explains language rules when you make a mistake. The two functions are included in a new subscription called Duolingo Max.
“Artificial intelligence has always been a huge part of our strategy,” says principal product manager Edwin Bodge. “We had been using it for personalizing lessons and running Duolingo English Tests. But there were gaps in a learner’s journey that we wanted to fill: conversation practice, and contextual feedback on mistakes.”
