Contrary to what we had hoped for, there was no remaster or remake of Red Dead Redemption. Instead, the game was ported to Nintendo Switch and Playstation 4, and despite the game being 13 years old, it has been priced at $50, which can be considered quite steep.
Someone who doesn’t agree with this is the CEO of Take-Two, Strauss Zelnick. When asked about the pricing by IGN, he responded that it is simply what they believe to be a commercially accurate price for the game. Hannah Sage from Take-Two also pointed out that it’s not just the base game, but also includes the Undead Nightmare expansion.
When asked why they didn’t do a remaster or remake instead of a port, he explained that it’s related to the creative team’s vision for the title, and if they don’t have a “powerful vision” for it, they can release the game in its original form instead.
So, Red Dead Redemption will be released for Playstation 4 and Nintendo Switch on August 17th, but only digitally. A physical release will follow in October. If you want to see how the Switch version compares to the old Xbox 360 version, you can check out a comparison video here.
