The Japanese gaming giant Sega announced at the end of last week that their acquisition of Rovio Entertainment, the Finnish game studio primarily known for Angry Birds, is now complete.
It was in April that it became known that Sega planned to acquire Rovio for $776 million. The idea behind the acquisition seems to be primarily that Sega is interested in Rovio’s Beacon platform, a platform used for developing mobile games.
It’s also not entirely unlikely that Sega has some interest in Rovio’s well-known characters from Angry Birds. Whether we’ll see a future crossover game where Sega’s mascot Sonic the Hedgehog meets the Angry Birds remains to be seen. But it’s probably not unlikely that such a scenario will happen.
