In the fall, a collection of Metal Gear titles called Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol 1 will be released. The collection will include Metal Gear Solid, Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, and Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. In addition to these titles, the collection will also include the classic 2D titles Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake.
As the name suggests, there are hints of a future Volume 2, and there are strong rumors now pointing to Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots being included in that collection.
What makes this unique is that the fourth installment was released exclusively for the PlayStation 3 and has never received a new release on any other platform or console, not even on later PlayStation consoles. The reason is said to be that the game was optimized for the PlayStation 3’s cell processors, making it extremely difficult to port to other systems. But if the rumors are true, perhaps we will finally get the game on other consoles and formats.
