Will Star Wars Outlaws be the open-world Star Wars game that many of us have been craving for years? It’s very possible, as the gameplay walkthrough we’ve seen looked very promising, although we shouldn’t get ahead of ourselves just yet. In any case, Gamesradar had a chat with creative director Julian Gerighty from Ubisoft Massive, who shared some more information about the game.

Star Wars Outlaws

Game World

He says that the studio wanted to do something different and not a live service game, and the opportunity to work with Star Wars is a dream that many of them have had. As we know, Star Wars Outlaws boasts an open game world consisting of multiple planets that can be explored on foot, in a hovercraft, or with the Trailblazer spaceship. However, they point out that they haven’t created entire planets with procedural generation, but rather more or less handcrafted regions for us to play around in.

Reputation

Your reputation will play a significant role in the game, and in the trailer, we saw a wanted poster issued when someone refused to bribe an officer from the Empire. You can also lose reputation if, for example, you’re caught stealing from a faction or criminal syndicate. They also emphasize that the gun won’t solve every problem and that sometimes it’s better to talk your way out of a situation.

Combat Abilities

If you’re wanted by the Empire, the smartest move might even be to take a trip to another planet to lay low for a while. Alternatively, you can take cover behind something and confront escalating opposition. However, the main character Kay is not a soldier and doesn’t rely on pinpoint accuracy but rather on resourcefulness and the use of various gadgets as well as her little companion, Nix.

Throughout the journey, we will not only upgrade Kay’s abilities but also arrange upgrades for her hoverbike, spaceship, and weapons. In the trailer, for example, we saw Kay switching between different modes on her pistol.

Star Wars Outlaws will be released in 2024 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.
