Thirteen years is a long time, and that’s how long we’ve been waiting for Alan Wake 2. Remedy has considered those who haven’t played the original (or any Remedy game, for that matter) and those of us with limited memory. We will play as Alan Wake – and Saga Anderson. The FBI agent is there to lower the threshold for newcomers, says Remedy icon Sam Lake.
In an interview with Edge magazine (thanks, Gamesradar), Lake explains the motivation behind Saga.
It’s been 13 years, and I feel very strongly that it would be the wrong way to say that you need to do all of this homework, go and play all of these games,” Lake explains. “You need to be able to follow [the plot of Alan Wake 2] even if you have not played a single Remedy game. So we needed a point-of-view character who is, in a similar way, a newcomer into all this craziness.
Remedy states that it’s a sequel but also a standalone one. Two protagonists – a veteran, a noob – might be what’s needed to find the balance. Alan Wake 2 will be released on October 17 for PC, Playstation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. To some disappointment, it will be available exclusively in digital format.
