Virtual gaming offers endless entertainment and unforgettable experiences. If you’re new to the gaming world, consider trying a virtual reality headset designed for the PlayStation 5. These headsets provide an immersive gaming experience with advanced control schemes and exceptional features.

As the release of Sony’s PSVR 2 headset approaches, many individuals will be introduced to virtual reality for the first time. If this applies to you, be prepared for an amazing experience, but it’s essential to take it slowly to enjoy it fully.

While it may be tempting to play an intense game such as Resident Evil Village, it’s best to avoid first-person locomotion games for your first VR experience. These games can be overwhelming for beginners and may cause motion sickness. Start with simpler, seated games and gradually work your way up to more intense experiences.

In this article, I’ll explore the top 7 games for the PSVR 2 that are worth buying and playing if you are new to virtual reality. These games may not be the most exciting on the market, but they are a great starting point for developing your VR skills.

Once you have played these VR games, you can then move on to more intense titles without worrying about experiencing motion sickness.

1. Moss

Moss is a VR game that is considered to be on the advanced end of the beginner scale. This is because it requires players to control both themselves and the game’s protagonist, Quill.

Moss is an enchanting adventure game that combines the charm of a fairy tale, the intricacies of a diorama, and the gameplay of a Zelda game. Its breathtaking landscapes, rendered in 4K resolution, will be even more stunning when viewed through the lens of the PSVR 2 headset.

As The Reader, a ghostly presence, you can manipulate the Ghibli-inspired stationary levels of Moss to create new paths for Quill to reach her goal. Using the PSVR 2’s Sense controllers, you can control Quill’s movements in a 3D platformer, guiding her to run, jump, and defeat mechanical beetles.

Mastering these unique gameplay mechanics will prepare you for more challenging VR experiences. But before you advance, take a moment to interact with Quill and the environment. Accept Quill’s high five, and take a look at your reflection in the game’s brooks to feel fully immersed in the adventure.

Though these interactions may seem insignificant, the fantastic character animations and Quill’s unique personality will make you feel like she is a real, living creature. Keep in mind that preventing her from drowning is important as witnessing her death animation will leave a lasting emotional impact.

2. Moss: Book II

The sequel to Moss, titled Moss: Book II, continues the immersive gameplay of the first game, picking up from where the player left off with Quill. In addition to familiar gameplay, new weapons, plot twists, and combat challenges have been added to test players’ VR skills.

For those interested, a bundle of both Moss and Moss: Book II can currently be pre-ordered on the PSN store for the PS5. It offers a discounted price and ensures the games will be ready for download on the day of the PSVR 2 launch.

To acclimate yourself to virtual reality, start with slower-paced and primarily stationary experiences like Job Simulator. While it may be tempting to jump into more intense and fast-paced games immediately, it’s best to take your time and become more comfortable with VR first.

Once you’re ready, you can then progress to larger-scale, first-person games like The Walking Dead: Saints and Sinners. Remember, these games will still be available later, so there’s no rush. With time and practice, you’ll be able to navigate virtual worlds with full locomotion smoothly and without feeling disoriented.

3. Kizuna AI: Touch the Beat

Unfortunately, Beat Saber will not be a launch title for the PSVR 2, despite being an excellent game for introducing people to the immersive world of virtual reality gaming. As an alternative, I suggest Kizuna AI: Touch the Beat, a rhythm-action game featuring the popular Japanese VTuber Kizuna AI.

The game puts players in the role of an audience member, tasking them with twin penlights to hit notes as they fly towards them. While the interactivity in this launch video game may not be as advanced as that of Beat Saber, it still offers a solid introduction to the immersive experience of standing and interacting with virtual objects in a virtual world.

Most gameplay takes place on a stationary stage in front of the player, reducing the likelihood of motion sickness. Also, with ample space in their physical playing area, players can move around within the virtual reality. Kizuna AI likewise offers the chance to sharpen your proficiency in handling dual motion controllers simultaneously by using them like batons to strike the colorful notes that appear in the virtual environment.

4. Demeo

“Demeo” is an immersive and engaging simulation of a popular board game. It allows players to learn how to navigate a virtual reality environment through physical gestures. The game also provides an opportunity to interact with other players in a multiplayer setting, giving players valuable experience communicating and collaborating in a virtual world.

Demeo is a turn-based role-playing board game similar to HeroQuest. The gameplay is slow-paced, allowing players to immerse themselves in the virtual world fully. Although the game is set on a virtual board, players can use their body movements as a controller, allowing for a more interactive experience. As a result, Demeo is an excellent VR game for beginners, as it offers a unique and immersive way to explore the game’s world.

The Sense controllers allow intuitive navigation in the game by allowing you to turn, zoom in and out, and move around the game board through gestures such as turning, separating your arms to zoom in and out, and grabbing the air to move. This is similar to using two fingers on a mobile phone screen.

Once you become accustomed to it, virtual reality movement can be easily mastered. By using physical movements to navigate, the risk of experiencing motion sickness is significantly reduced.

5. Cities VR: Enhanced Edition

Cities VR: Enhanced Edition is a city management game that allows you to design the city of your dreams in a visually stunning and immersive virtual reality experience. The game utilizes a diorama-style approach, allowing you to lean in and out of the environment physically.

With the use of the Sense controller’s thumbsticks, you can also move around within the virtual world, allowing for greater exploration and management of the development and economy of your city. Although using thumbsticks for movement in VR can take some getting used to, playing Cities VR can help you build up your tolerance for this type of motion.

The game offers a variety of menus that allow you to manage your city, including monitoring the well-being of your citizens and keeping track of your finances. These menus are designed to help players seamlessly transition between 3D gameplay and flat menus using motion controls. Building and designing your city using the Sense controller is intuitive and simple, as you can draw, place buildings, and paint using point-and-click gestures.

Enhanced Edition offers a unique and immersive experience by allowing players to view their creations from a birds-eye perspective and then zoom in to street level, where they can witness the bustling activity of the people and traffic. This change in scale and perspective is a prime example of how virtual reality can transport players into the game world and immerse them in it. Additionally, the added ability to create and shape this world only enhances the player’s connection to it.

Fantavision 202X is a reimagined version of the classic PS2 game designed specifically for the PSVR2 platform. As a VR-compatible title, it serves as the perfect introduction for those new to the world of virtual reality gaming.

Experience the thrill of setting off a vibrant fireworks display from the comfort of your couch with this easy-to-learn and entertaining game. The objective is to connect three or more firework flares of the same color and earn points by doing so. It’s a perfect way to relax and unwind while engaging in a fun and interactive activity.

This week’s episode of VR Corner may not seem exciting at first glance. Still, once you put on the PSVR 2 headset and experience the 4K HDR visuals, you’ll be transported to a virtual world filled with thousands of twinkling particles as the fireworks you set off burst around you.

The striking colors of the fireworks stand out against the dark backdrop, and the game’s simple point-and-click control system makes it easy to acclimate to using the Sense controllers in a virtual environment. Fantavision 202X is an excellent starting point for anyone looking to explore the world of VR.

7. Tentacular

Gain a deeper understanding of motion controller usage in virtual worlds through hands-on experimentation with Tentacular. This unique game features a two-tentacled Kaiju working to help the inhabitants of an island.

Each level presents a new puzzle and island layout, but the game world remains consistent. By using thumbsticks to control Kaiju’s movements, players can experience the sensation of movement in the game world, reducing the risk of motion sickness.

Playing Tentacular on the PSVR 2 is an immersive experience. It’s a fun and colorful game that is suitable for all ages. The game’s grip buttons on the sides of the controllers are used for grasping and tossing objects, making it a great way to practice your Sense controller abilities.

In short, Tentacular is a great game for players who want to get familiar with the PSVR 2’s Sense controllers and also want to have fun with a family-friendly game. It is an immersive experience that will take you to a colorful virtual world where you can interact with various objects using the Sense controllers. I highly recommend this game and would give it a 10 out of 10 Tentacles.
