The Crown, the incredibly expensive series about the blessed Queen Elizabeth II’s extraordinary life, is nearing its end.
The first season of Peter Morgan’s epic premiered on Netflix back in 2016 and took viewers and critics by storm. Following the queen’s death last fall, filming was halted for a period.
Now the streaming giant shares the first images from the final season.
Inspired by real events, The Crown is a fictional dramatization of the story of Queen Elizabeth II and the political and personal events that shaped her reign. In the sixth and final season of the series, we will see Ed McVey as Prince William and Meg Bellamy as Kate Middleton.
Imelda Staunton reprises her role as Elizabeth II. As The Crown enters a new decade, Prince William begins at the University of St Andrews, determined to live as normal a life as possible while he still can. Kate Middleton from Berkshire also starts her life as a university student. When the couple meet for the first time on campus, a new romance and a new future for the Windsor monarchy begins.
Ed and Meg filmed for the upcoming series in St Andrews, Scotland earlier this year and visited several of the real locations that their characters visited twenty years ago.
A behind-the-scenes photo shows Ed and Meg posing outside Northpoint Cafe in St. Andrews, which claims to be the place “Where Kate met Wills.”
The Crown is McVey’s screen debut after performing on stage at The Old Vic and Hammersmith Riverside Studios. He graduated from Drama Centre London in 2021.
Newcomer Meg Bellamy, 19, landed the role of Kate Middleton after submitting an audition video following a casting call on social media.
The final season will consist of 10 episodes, and Peter Morgan remains the series creator, screenwriter and executive producer. Starring: Imelda Staunton as Queen Elizabeth II, Jonathan Pryce as Prince Philip, Lesley Manville as Princess Margaret, Dominic West as Prince Charles, Elizabeth Debicki as Princess Diana, Claudia Harrison as Princess Anne, Olivia Williams as Camilla Parker Bowles, Bertie Carvel as Tony Blair, Khalid Abdalla as Dodi Fayed, and Luther Ford as Prince Harry.
The Crown, season 6 is coming to Netflix later this year.
