Yet another classic horror character makes a comeback. The Irish house sprite is resurrected to spread terror among anyone who comes near his gold.

Leprechaun

The horrifying creature based on Irish folklore never became as iconic as Jason Voorhees and Freddy Krueger, but the “Leprechaun” franchise still attracted a large audience in the 90s. Over the years, it has gained a steady cult following. If nothing else, Jennifer Aniston made her feature film debut in the first installment of the franchise.

Now, Lionsgate can confirm that the wicked imp is returning to enchant and kill foolish youths in the most gruesome ways, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter. “Leprechaun” will be rebooted by director Felipe Vargas, known for the award-winning short film “Milk Teeth.”

“Thirty years after the debut film, it is still a franchise that enchants, and we are excited to revive it with a new vision,” said Erin Westerman, head of production at Lionsgate, to The Hollywood Reporter.

Leprechaun
Warwick Davis (known from “Star Wars” and “Willow”, among others) portrayed this creepy character from 1993 to 2003.

“Leprechaun” resulted in a total of eight films, with the latest one released in 2018. Like Jason Voorhees, the sprite has left the countryside to explore both outer space and the big city. Warwick Davis portrayed the terrifying character in six of the films. Currently, there are no signs that he intends to return to the role.
