The director behind “John Wick” has ambitious plans as he brings the popular PlayStation game to the big screen.
Compressing a gripping, story-driven game (which spans many, many hours) into a single feature film is undoubtedly a challenging task. Especially if one wants to do justice to the game and satisfy the fans. With these thoughts in mind, “John Wick” director Chad Stahelski plans to create a magnificent universe consisting of spin-offs and TV series when “Ghost of Tsushima” is adapted into a film. He only hopes that Sony Pictures is on board.
It’s just how do I pack that much information into a feature that can go on to other features or a TV project or platform for that. The trick is not do we have great material, we know we have great material. It’s how to make it palpable in any platform, you know, how do we make a great two, two and a half hour movie out of this? Make it satisfying and leave it open to expand further from there, like that’s the real challenge is how to take so much great and get it down to a watchable level.

Indeed, laying the foundations for a vast samurai universe in the same vein as Marvel did with its superheroes is not an easy feat. It truly requires meticulous planning of the entire screenplay in advance to ensure that all story elements feel credible and engaging.
Sony Pictures has long been discussing the adaptation of several beloved PlayStation games into films. Considering the immense popularity of “The Last of Us” series, Sony has every reason to make significant investments in upcoming game adaptations. So, a “Ghost of Tsushima” universe is likely to come from Sony if the director asks for it.
The samurai game “Ghost of Tsushima” was released for PlayStation 4 three years ago and quickly became one of Sony’s fastest-selling games of all time.
