For the first time, all new iPhone models will have a 48-megapixel main camera, which was previously only available on the iPhone 14 Pro models.
To take advantage of the new camera, Apple has implemented a new option in the Camera app called “HEIF Max,” which allows users to capture photos in full 48-megapixel resolution without needing to enable ProRAW, which results in much larger file sizes.
This option will also be available for the iPhone 14 Pro with iOS 17. Previously, users had only three options for taking photos with the iPhone 14 Pro Max: regular 12-megapixel JPEG or HEIF, 12-megapixel ProRAW, and 48-megapixel ProRAW.
