The third “Tron” movie features Jared Leto in the lead role and is directed by Norwegian filmmaker Joachim Rønning.
Evan Peters, known for his roles in “Dahmer” and the “X-Men” films, is confirmed to have a role in “Tron: Ares,” the third installment of the long-running sci-fi franchise.
The original film, starring Jeff Bridges, was released in 1982 and was groundbreaking for its time with its digital effects. In 2010, Disney released the sequel “Tron: Legacy” featuring Garrett Hedlund and Olivia Wilde.
A third film has been in the works for a long time, but progress has been slow. However, things are starting to happen now. We know that Jared Leto will play the lead role and that Norwegian director Joachim Rønning (“Kon-Tiki,” “Maleficent: Mistress of Evil”) is at the helm.
Peters’ character is not yet known. However, Deadline reports that there are two roles to be cast: a soldier in the virtual world and a nerdy gamer in the human world. Rumor has it that he might take over the role of Ed Dillinger Jr, previously portrayed by Cillian Murphy in “Tron: Legacy.” If so, Peters would become the film’s villain (or one of them?).
Leto portrays Ares, a manifestation of an evil computer program. Filming is set to begin in August, unless the actors decide to go on strike, of course.
