The ongoing writer’s strike in Hollywood has caused the production of the fifth and final season of Stranger Things to be delayed. The show’s creators, the Duffer Brothers, tweeted yesterday that writing isn’t finished just because filming has started, so they’re pausing production of this season in solidarity with the screenwriters.
The strike has affected thousands of screenwriters who are demanding better compensation for streaming residuals, higher pay, and better protection. The last writer’s strike in 2007-2008 lasted for 100 days and caused enormous economic losses across the entire entertainment industry. It also resulted in disappointments such as season 2 of Battlestar Galactica and led to the cancellation of the fantastic show, Pushing Daisies.
