It has now been confirmed that Andy Serkis will return in his role in the upcoming sequel to “The Batman,” which is expected to premiere in the fall of 2025.
Previously, it was announced that Robert Pattinson will once again take on the iconic role of Batman in “The Batman 2.” Additionally, Matt Reeves will once again direct and write the script. Now, MovieWeb reports that the director has confirmed that Andy Serkis will return in his role as Batman’s butler, Alfred Pennyworth.
Reeves talks about why he wanted Serkis specifically as Alfred.
“He’s a genius. I remember when I was writing ‘The Batman,’ I said to Andy, ‘I want you to play Alfred, and I want to make it really emotional. Because I want people to see your face, not some avatar, so they can really understand what an incredible actor you are.'”

Serkis specializes in both acting and voice acting using motion capture animation technology, which we have seen in his portrayal of Gollum in The Lord of the Rings trilogy. In “The Batman,” we got to see his real face.
“The Batman Part II” will begin filming this fall and is expected to premiere on October 3, 2025.
