Do you usually refer to a specific Intel processor as an “i-seventh”? Well, soon you’ll have to stop doing that. When the next generation of chips is released, they will be named either Intel, Intel Core, or Intel Core Ultra, followed by a number.
Instead of Intel Core i7, it will be Intel Core 7 or Intel Core Ultra 7, where Ultra is reserved for the company’s flagship chips. The reason is precisely that people say “i-seventh” and not “Intel Core 7” or “Core 7.”
Intel simply wants more focus on “Core” rather than “i” and doesn’t want people going around saying they bought a “seventh” without mentioning “Core 7.”
This change will come with the next generation of chips, currently known as Meteor Lake. Another update is that they will not be referred to as the 14th generation chips.
