Soon, it will be the premiere of the Volkswagen ID.7. In addition to a new ID model, it will also feature a completely new rear-axle electric powertrain.
The whole system is called MEB drive APP550, and it consists of an electric motor, an inverter, and a heating system. All of these components are newly developed, and the package is said to be both more efficient and powerful than the previous ones used. The size of everything is the same as before, which means that it also fits in today’s ID models, and versions of these with APP550 will be released later.
However, the ID.7 is the first to feature this powertrain, with a power output of 286 horsepower and torque of 550 newton-meters. The motor consumes less energy than before, has better cooling, and, because it can be cooled without an electric pump, it will contribute to a longer driving range. However, the exact range has not been revealed yet. The ID.7 is expected to have a range of 700 km on a single charge with the larger battery pack.
