Mercedes is now introducing the second generation of the AMG GT Coupe model, and aside from a new look, there have been other quite significant changes.

The car is now offered as a 2+2 and thus gets a rear seat. Additionally, all-wheel drive is now standard, whereas the predecessor was only available with rear-wheel drive.

On the technology side, features such as active roll stabilization, active aerodynamics, and a controllable rear axle can be found. In terms of appearance, the proportions seem to align better than before, and it’s clear who Mercedes is targeting with this model – yes, the Porsche 911. Compared to its predecessor, the new car is 18.2 centimeters longer (total length of 4.72 meters), 4.5 centimeters wider, 6.6 centimeters taller, and the wheelbase has been extended by seven centimeters to 2.7 meters.

Initially, it’s offered in the GT 55 4MATIC+ version with a twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 engine producing 476 horsepower and 700 Newton-meters. This accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.9 seconds and reaches a top speed of 295 km/h.

The other version is named GT 63 4MATIC+ and offers 585 horsepower and 800 Newton-meters from the same engine. It accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.2 seconds and is said to have a top speed of 315 km/h. There might be a more powerful plug-in hybrid version in the future, and perhaps even a lower-powered version with four cylinders, similar to the SL.

The only transmission option available is a nine-speed automatic. The interior features a digital instrument cluster with a 12.3-inch screen and an infotainment screen measuring 11.9 inches. Both of these are taken from the larger SL sibling. The rear seat is best suited for children, and the trunk offers 321 liters of space, expanding to 675 liters when the rear seatbacks are folded down.
