NASA has now unveiled the spacesuit that astronauts will wear when traveling to the moon as part of the Artemis program. The suit is created by Axiom Space and is designed to improve mobility for astronauts moving on the surface of the moon.
The suits will be used during Artemis III, where the first woman and non-white person will walk on the moon. The prototype has a dark gray color, designed by costume designer Esther Marquis, who worked on the TV series “For All Mankind,” but the suit that will actually be used will be white for thermal reasons.
The new helmet has features such as a light band over the helmet bubble to help astronauts see better, and an HD video camera on the side so that astronauts’ POV can be live-streamed to Earth. Another difference compared to previous suits is that astronauts step into them from the back instead of from the top and bottom.
