A year ago, we wrote that the classic Meyers Manx sand dune buggy would be revived in an electric version.
Now we have the price tag, and as you can see, it might be just as expected – quite high. Version 2.0 will start at $74,000. For that amount, you get a two-seater small car with an aluminum monocoque chassis and a 20 kWh battery pack that provides a range of 24 miles. There’s an electric motor for each rear wheel, with a combined output of 202 horsepower. There’s also a larger 40 kWh battery pack that offers a range of 48 miles.
They will also release a version called Resorter NEV. It accommodates four passengers and costs “only” $49,000. However, this one is intended to be used as an upscale golf cart in residential areas, with a maximum speed of 40 km/h (25 mph). The exact start date for shipping the first units of the vehicles is still unclear.
