Like many others, Rivian buys its electric motors from Bosch. But the semiconductor shortage persists and Bosch simply cannot deliver everything that Rivian needs. To avoid being stuck with lots of half-finished cars, Rivian has therefore started to manufacture its own motors.

FIRST SHIFT – 04/17/2023: Rivian shifts to in-house motors

These are slightly simpler than Bosch’s equivalent and contain fewer semiconductors. The new motor, called the Enduro, is expected to be ready and ready to be installed in cars later this year. Both the R1T and R1S will have two of these motors, and in the basic version, they provide a total of 447 kW/608 horsepower and in a more powerful version 522 kW/710 horsepower. Cars with Bosch motors, four in number, will continue to be offered but not with the largest battery pack. And probably with a slightly longer waiting time than others.
