If you want a Cayman GT4 RS but with the option to take off the roof whenever you feel like it, this is the one to have – the Porsche 718 Spyder RS. This is the convertible version of its coupe sibling, a high-performance open sports car that comes with a small fabric piece that can be strapped over the cabin if the weather turns bad.
This is the first time Porsche has put the 500-horsepower flat-six engine from the 911 GT3 into an open model with the engine located in the middle. To ensure proper breathing, there are additional air intakes located right next to the headrests, which, combined with the sports exhaust system, should provide a pretty pleasant sound when you step on it. The engine is a 4.0-liter with a redline at 9,000 rpm and a torque of 450 Newton-meters. It is paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox, and it can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.4 seconds. It takes 10.9 seconds to reach 200 km/h, and the fun only stops at 308 km/h. Unfortunately, there is no manual gearbox offered. Compared to the 718 Spyder, the RS version is 40 kilograms lighter. The entire roof and its structure weigh 18.3 kilograms. If you want to reduce weight even further, you can opt for the Weissach package, which gives you forged magnesium wheels and titanium tailpipes, but it’s not clear how much weight these items save.
