Six months ago, Lexus showcased technology where a manual transmission was installed in an electric car. It simulates gear shifts, has simulated rev-matching, and gear sounds.
Now, we have learned that this will become a reality in electric cars from the manufacturer starting in 2026. It will be with the introduction of the next generation of Toyota’s electric vehicles. According to Takero Kato, CEO of the new BEV Factory division, the goal is to provide customers with a wow experience.
The cars will have a clutch pedal and gear lever, just like any other manual car, and will even simulate stalling if you don’t apply gas when releasing the clutch to start moving.
