Hyundai Mobis, their sub-division for spare parts and autonomous driving technology, showcased a radical concept at the CES show in Las Vegas in early January.
It’s called e-Corner, and it’s a brand new turning system that makes city driving, street parking, and maneuvering in tight parking garages a dream!
Using an electric motor, an electric damping system, electronic brakes and steering, the new system can be built into modern electric cars without taking extra space. So engineers don’t have to worry about finding space for the technology.
e-Corner provides new opportunities.
The e-Corner technology was showcased on all four wheels of a modified Ioniq 5. The car can rotate all four wheels 90 degrees to point in the same direction, making it easy for the car to enter and exit a parallel parking spot.
The car can also spin 360 degrees on the spot, so you can make a U-turn anywhere, safely and easily.
You can also drive diagonally if you want, not unlike the electric Hummer. Or turn like a forklift, with the rear wheels 90 degrees and the front wheels straight ahead. Here, the possibilities are many and we want one! Let’s hope that this technology finds its way into Hyundai and Kia cars as soon as possible! In that case, there will be cars to drool over!
