Between 1967 and 1977, Alfa Romeo manufactured the racing car Tipo 33. In the first year and until 1969, they also developed a street version – the 33 Stradale. Only 18 units of this car were produced, and it’s considered by many to be the most beautiful four-wheeled creation ever made.
Now, the manufacturer is unleashing a modern homage to this classic with a new supercar that will be offered with both a combustion engine and as an electric vehicle. And even if the original might be more stunning, this one is quite remarkable as well.
The combustion engine is a twin-turbocharged V6 that delivers 629 horsepower, the same engine found in the Maserati MC20. Power is sent to the rear wheels through an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission. The electric version, on the other hand, boasts 760 horsepower and can travel 450 km on a single charge.
Both versions can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h (0 to 62 mph) in under three seconds and reach a top speed of 333 km/h (207 mph). Brembo brakes ensure that the car can go from 100 km/h to 0 in just 30 meters. The car was developed at Alfa Romeo’s testing facility in Balocco in collaboration with Formula 1 driver Valtteri Bottas. It features a carbon fiber monocoque, a roof made of both aluminum and carbon fiber, and body panels in polycarbonate.
True to a supercar’s design, it has upward-opening doors. There will be two driving modes – Strada and Pista. The former is for street driving and limits the car slightly while making it quieter as long as it’s not revved over 5000 RPM. Pista stiffens up the entire car and makes it more responsive.
Only 33 units will be produced, and not surprisingly, all of them are already sold. The manufacturing will be carried out by Carrozzeria Touring Superleggera, and each car is rumored to cost over a million dollars.
