One of BYD‘s latest electric cars is the Seagull model and even though it may not stand out in terms of design, there are quite interesting things under the hood. It is a small car and therefore you do not need a very large engine, and physically there is not enough space for a large battery pack.

For this car, they have developed a lithium iron phosphate battery, which is considerably cheaper than other battery packs. This gives a cheaper car to the customers and Seagull becomes the first model to use it. On the first day you could order the car, over 10,000 pre-orders were received.

Seagull will be offered with either a 30 or 38 kWh “Blade Battery”, and it is said to have a range of 300 or 400 km on a single charge according to the Chinese driving cycle. The electric motor that drives the front wheels is either 55 kW/75 horsepower or 75 kW/102 horsepower. You should be able to charge from 0-80 percent in half an hour. The car is based on the “e-platform 3.0” platform and measures 3.78 meters in length, 1.71 in width, and is 1.54 meters high.

The battery pack developed by BYD will also be used by Tesla’s vehicles manufactured in China in the future.
