A party trick that Citroën DS could do was to drive with only three wheels. The suspension made sure that the car remained upright despite this. Fast forward a few years and BYD’s new electric supercar YangWang U9 can do the same thing.

It can also jump in place and dance around. Not something you do every day of course, but in the clips here it’s all a demonstration of the new advanced suspension system Disus-X. In addition to good comfort, the system should be able to minimize the risk of the car ending up on its roof and it also helps to keep it in check during full acceleration and panic braking.

The car is based on the new Yisigang EV platform and has four electric motors that together generate 820 kW/1115 horsepower and 1280 newton meters of torque. 0-100 km/h should take two seconds and on a single charge of the 100 kWh battery pack, it should be possible to travel up to 700 km (according to the CLTC cycle). The price of the creation is not currently specified.

The new DiSus system comes equipped with a number of sensing technologies with a fusion of advanced deep intelligence that not only has increased perception but also combines a systematic approach to vertical motion – a phrase we don’t normally associate with cars.
