The Paragon Board system is completely new to Diablo IV and has been added to further expand your character customization beyond just your character’s skills.

When players reach level 50 for their character, they’ll then unlock the Paragon Boards, and you’ll then finally be able to work through the board up to level 100, depending on which direction you may choose to take your character. After level 50 you’ll start getting paragon XP and with every new paragon level your character progresses to you’ll unlock 5 tiles.

Each starting Paragon Board will be different from class to class and will also include a Paragon Starting Node, either at the centre of the board or at the end of it. It is from this point that you’ll be able to then start expanding one tile at a time by using the points that you gain from levelling up from level 50 to level 100.

When you get to the edge of a board you’ll come across a gate tile, which is where you’ll be able to choose which new paragon board you’ll want to attach to the board that you’ve just crossed. You will also be able to preview this tile, by simply clicking on it, before you even get to it so that you can get an idea of the other boards available, and also what legendary and rare tiles they could contain.

Choosing a Board

One of the first and most important decisions you’ll have to make is which Boards you want to build into. Each Diablo IV class will have 8 Boards as well as its Starting Board, however you won’t be able to invest into all of them since you won’t have enough points. So, how exactly do you choose the right boards for you? Well let’s break down some of the things you should take into consideration.

  • Analyze the various boards available and create a priority list.
  • If you come across a Legendary node that will be really powerful for your specific build, you’ll definitely want to invest in it and it should be put very high on your priority list. The Legendary will dictate what the general theme of your board is going to be, if the legendary is this good then chances are the rest of the nodes will be too.
  • Remember to not forget about your defence. A lot of Diablo IV players and gamers in general will usually over-value their offensive nodes and then as a result they’ll end up without enough health and defence to even use their attacks. So try to make sure that your selected Boards will have a good balance between both offence as well as defence.

So, essentially the Boards that’ll be the best for you will be determined by how well the nodes of these Boards will fit in with your specific character build. Understanding exactly what actually makes a node valuable and then further being able to actually compare it to others is extremely important since there are several various nodes to consider and they aren’t all weighted equally.

Various Tile Types

These are the various tile types that you will come across on your various boards:

  • Normal Tile – these tiles aren’t that strong but still provide players with a meaningful boost, although small. These types of tiles are very common on every board and each one of them will provide a +5 stat bonus to Strength, Willpower, Intelligence or Dexterity.
  • Magic Tile –  You’ll most commonly find Magic tiles in clusters, and these tiles will provide a more potent and diverse set of benefits. These types of tiles are less common than the Normal tiles above.
  • Rare Tile – Now when it comes to the Rare tiles, they’ve provided you with a more significant boost to power. What’s more is these rare tiles will actually also have additional powers that will unlock once you have managed to raise an attribute to a sufficient level. You’ll be able to find six Rare tiles on each board.
  • Legendary Tile – Then lastly, we have the Legendary tile, only one of these special tiles is found at the centre of a Paragon Board, which does not include your Starting Board. The Legendary tile is special because it provides your character with a new Legendary power, which is quite similar to imbuing an Aspect on your gear, however in this case you won’t need to equip it.

The Gate Tiles

The Gate Tiles of a Paragon Board are found at the very edge, and once you manage to reach one of these, you’ll then see a new board is unlocked and you’ll finally be able to select a new board from a list. When you get this new board, you’ll also have the option to rotate if you want to. As soon as you have selected the Gate Tile, you’ll also receive a +5 stat bonus to either Strength, Willpower, Intelligence or Dexterity.

Glyph and Sockets

A Socket is essentially just a special type of tile that may contain a Glyph, which are items that you can find all throughout Sanctuary that bring out various benefits based on the number of active tiles that you have in their radius, when you embed it into a Paragon Board that is. When you start your Paragon Board in Diablo IV, you’ll usually already start with quite a few blue Glyphs, but as you progress you’ll be able to find Rare Glyphs.

Then after you get a Glyph, you can then level it up to extend its effect radius, and essentially allow it to draw even more power from or impart power into more active tiles on the board. You’ll be able to level up Glyphs once you’ve completed the Nightmare Dungeons.

Final Words

So, there you have an in depth guide to the Paragon Points and Boards in Diablo IV. Hopefully you were able to learn a lot more about them both and can now make a much better and more informed decision as to which Boards you’re going to pick to best cater towards your character build.
