Soon, Renault’s Austral model will be available in a coupé version – hooray! However, it will not be named Austral Coupé, but instead, it will be named Rafale.
This name comes from Renault’s involvement in the aviation industry. In the 1930s, Renault manufactured engines for cars, trains, and airplanes. In 1933, they acquired the manufacturer Caudron and established Caudron-Renault. One of the airplanes produced during that time was called the C460 – Rafale. The aircraft was built to set speed records.
Renault believes that this heritage can be reflected in the car, hence they chose the same name. The car will premiere at the Paris Air Show in Le Bourget on June 18 and will be launched next spring.
