A group of Porsche Taycan 4 Cross Turismo vehicles has now set a new world record, and it’s quite a unique one. It involves the largest altitude difference ever conquered by an electric car.

The journey began at Aydingkol, an arid lake in the Xinjiang region of northwestern China, located 218.8 meters below sea level, making it the lowest point in China. From there, they drove the vehicles up to Hongtu Daban in Tibet, a point measuring 5355 meters above sea level. During the 2780-km journey, which lasted ten days, they also tackled popular off-road routes, including the Tomur Grand Canyon, Tarim Poplar Forest, Sansha Desert Highway, Dokuo-Lunque Highway, and G219 National Highway.

In other Porsche news, their attempt to trademark the sound of electric cars in Europe has been rejected. The reason cited is that the sound is not distinctive enough and does not identify the source as a Porsche; it could be associated with any electric car. Porsche described the sound as:

futuristic, melodious, and has a certain tempo as well as motives and dynamics. It combines the typical features of a musical composition, namely dynamics structure and different pitches, and brings them together to create a memorable and unusual sound.

They even compared it to the opening of Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony, the sound KITT’s scanner makes in the front of the car, and how lightsabers sound in Star Wars. Porsche is expected to appeal the decision.
